In the Topps 1980 baseball card series, the most widely celebrated rookie card is that of Oakland A's leadoff hitter, Rickey Henderson (number 482). The card shows Henderson in a classic batting pose, though finding the card in pristine condition can be a challenge. Other top rookie cards are Dave Stieb (77), Rick Sutcliffe (544) and Jesse Orosco/Mike Scott (681).

There are 726 cards in this Topps set. Subsets include Highlights of the 1979 season (1-6), League Leaders (201-207) and Future Stars (661-686). The Future Stars set feature 3 rookie players per card, all from the same team. Team checklists with manager photos are distributed throughout the set. There are other lesser-known, scarcer sets from 1980. There's the SSPC Baseball Immortals set of 173 cards, Burger King's Pitch, Hit & Run series of 34 cards and Kellogg's 60-card set. From 1980 on, the cards are considered "modern" in the collecting world. "Vintage" typically applies to cards prior to 1980.
