Struck in 1879 to commemorate the 1861 CSA Restrike half dollar which had a low mintage of 500 pieces, and supposedly 500 of these Scott Restrikes were made with a new design for the obverse. A composition of alloy and steel were used to make these coins. PCGS Population is 20 in MS62, 20 in MS63, 15 in MS64, and two in MS65. A nice, shiny and silvery example of this piece, and a rare opportunity to obtain one of these fascinating and historic pieces.
