Courtesy Autograph Fr. 1312 50¢ First Issue Vertical Pair PCGS Banknote About Unc 53 PPQ. The most modern Courtesy Autograph that we are aware of on a Fractional. W.A. Julian has courtesy autographed this pretty pair with his initials that travel on an angle and are present on both notes. Julian was Treasurer for the longest period of any of the people who have held that office. His term spanned from June 1, 1933 until May 29, 1949. This note was signed towards the end of his tenure. In the wide selvage below the bottom note someone has written "autographed by W.A. Julian U.S. Treas January 29, 1946." It's a reasonable assumption that the notation is from the collector who requested the Courtesy Autograph. This great Courtesy was Lot 1687 of Smythe's 1999 Memphis sale. First Issue notes are the rarest issue for Courtesy Autographs.
