1849 18/18 $1 Gold NGC AU58 VP-001 No L, 6210520-001.  The Gold Dollar was introduced in 1849, and was designed by the man who designed the then-current Indian Head Cent - James Barton Longacre. As the designer of the coin, he included a small "L" initial in the truncation of the neck (-or bust). VP-001 refers to the date "1849" having been repunched clockwise to its first impression. Doubling visible on first numerals "18--".It's estimated only 1,000 Gold Dollars were struck from these sets of dies.
