The 1799 Draped Bust $10 coin has a total mintage of just 37,449 coins across all varieties. This is an outstanding example of the Small Obverse Stars variety, more specifically, the BD-2 die pairing. Only three examples of this die pair are listed in PCGS CoinFacts, however, many un-attributed examples are known to exist. Even when taking into account the roughly three dozen coins that make up this die pair, the present piece is bested by just two, an MS64 and an MS65. Undoubtedly a condition census survivor from the BD-2 die pair, this select example is sure to catch the attention of astute early gold specialists and registry set contenders. Lightly frosted devices contrast pleasantly with the bright fields. Surfaces boast a luscious medium gold tone with mild burgundy hues confined to the peripherals. Stars 3 and 12 on the obverse show weakness, a trait that is seen across most, if not all, BD-2 examples. Adjustment marks, as minted, are seen on both sides and a fascinating bold die crack on the obverse runs from the rim, to the left of the L, and through Liberty's cap. Impressive, dynamic luster swirls across both sides and bold details are evident throughout, especially on the reverse. This piece has eye appeal to spare and is sure to make its way into another lofty cabinet! Visit www.davidlawrence.com for more information on this coin and 7000+ more coins.
