Large-sized notes include any denomination of United States currency that was printed 1863-1929. Small-sized notes were printed beginning in 1928. These large-sized notes were made in $1 through $10,000 denominations. The most common of these are Federal Reserve notes from 1914 and 1918. A Federal Reserve Note has denominations in U.S. dollars. They are different from Federal Reserve Bank Notes, in that these are backed by all twelve Federal Reserve Banks. The Federal Reserve Bank Notes, issued between 1915 and 1971, were backed by just one of the banks. Both are legal tender in the United States, along with Silver Certificates, Gold Certificates, National Bank Notes and United States Notes. Federal Reserve Notes were the only U.S. banknotes still being produced in 2012.

Silver Certificates were printed 1878-1964, used as paper currency, and until 1968, redeemable in silver dollar coins or silver bullion. Gold Certificates were used as paper currency between 1863 and 1933, and granted the owner title to that amount in gold coins. They were redeemable for coins until 1933. Between 1933 and 1964 the possession of these notes was illegal, but they were made legal again for collectible purposes. In these pages, we also have legal tender and other types of large notes, with some extremely scarce early specimens in outstanding condition.
