This fascinating experimental issue reflects late-19th century efforts to align U.S. coinage with the international metric system, with the reverse prominently displaying the metric equivalents for the proposed dollar denomination. The coin exhibits deeply mirrored proof fields and razor-sharp device detail throughout Liberty???s portrait and the intricate reverse inscriptions.
