BYZANTINE. Ca. AD 4th-6th centuries. Weight of 6 grammata or scipula (17mm, 6.45 gm). XF. Two imperial busts, both nimbate; S below / Blank. Cf. Bendall 106 (one solidi). This rare specimen may be a commercial weight of 6 grammata or, alternatively, a weight of six scripula - equating to 1 1/2 solidi. If so, then it could have been used as a measure for the extremely rare 1 1/2 solidi of Anastasius I or Justin I. However, both types weigh slightly heavier than the weight, possibly making this specimen light for its type. HID07901242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
