1793 1C Wreath, Vine and Bars Edge, S-6, B-7, R.3, AU58+ NGC. Breen Die State V, showing a faint die crack from the obverse border six beads right of the Y. The bulge in the left obverse field is pronounced. Several minor edge dents are noted on this pleasing chocolate-brown example that has a small defect on Liberty’s cheek aiding identification. Slight wear is evident on the highest design elements, limiting the grade.      While changes have occurred since Del Bland's census was published 26 years ago, this example was recorded as tied for tenth finest at the time. The Noyes-Lusk Early Copper Database provides the most up-to-date census of the early large cents and records this example and one other as tied for the 11th finest of the Sheldon-6 Wreath cents.      This example is the fifth finest 1793 S-6 Wreath cent that we have offered in our auctions spanning nearly 35 years since we started our Permanent Auction Archives. Over those years, we have handled 10 different examples of the S-6 Sprung Die variety that are certified finer than AU50, and those 10 examples have made 14 auction appearances in all of our sales. Those top 10 pieces include: MS66 Red and Brown PCGS. Clarence S. Bement (Henry Chapman, 5/1916), lot 288; Dr. George P. French (B. Max Mehl, 1929 FPL), lot 5; Henry A. Sternberg (J.C.
