1849-D G$1 AU55 PCGS. Winter 1-A, showing the D mintmark set left of center. The first issue of gold dollars from Dahlonega was the 21,588 pieces struck in 1849. As the first issue, the 1849-D was well-saved and is the most common dollar from the Georgia facility. This crisply struck Choice AU example shows only traces of wear on Liberty's curls. Original green-gold patina is layered in vibrant hues of orange and lavender, and much of the original frosty luster remains for terrific eye appeal. Ex: Sunday Closing Auction (David Lawrence RC, 6/2019), lot 8285. HID06601242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
