1866 1C-S$1 Nine-Piece Proof Set, PR61 to PR65 PCGS. The set includes: Cent PR62 Red and Brown. Sharply struck and reflective, with frosty motifs that complement the array of copper-red, gold, and overlaid chestnut-brown toning. Scattered specks are typical of the grade. Two Cent PR62 Red and Brown. Similar in appearance to the cent, with gold, orange, and copper-red colors that include some scattered specks. Eye appeal is pleasing for the grade. Three Cent Nickel PR62. JD-1, High R.2. Light golden toning graces each side, with sharp motifs and reflective fields. Light specks accompany the grade. Three Cent Silver PR65. JD-1. The highest grade coin in the set displays old-time multicolor toning over deeply mirrored fields. The devices are well struck, though some die lapping is visible in the recesses of the C on the reverse. Rays Shield Nickel PR62. JD-1, Low R.3. Well struck around the margins but minutely weak in the centers. This piece is brilliant with a few specks. Dime PR62 Cameo. Fortin-102, JD-1, R.3. Deeply reflective with mottled lavender, blue, and golden toning. Modest contrast adds to the eye appeal. Motto Quarter PR61. Briggs 2-B, JD-1. Old-time blue-green, russet, and lavender toning in the protected margins complements golden interiors. The strike is sharp, and the coin is much more attractive than its grade would normally imply. Motto Half Dollar PR61. JD-1, High R.2. Similar color to the quarter, though mostly light golden. The strike is sharp, and the fields are deeply mirrored. Motto Silver Dollar PR62. OC-P1, JD-2, Low R.4. The toning is similar to the quarter and half dollar, but more mottled and irregular. Well struck and pleasing for the grade. From The Cole Carter Collection.
