1860-S 50C MS64+ PCGS CAC - Single Finest 1860-S Liberty Seated Half Dollar. With a mintage of 472,000 pieces but only 600 pieces extant today in all grades, this pre-Civil War issue remains a desirable and collectible representative within the series today. Graded MS64+ PCGS CAC, this piece represents the pinnacle of the issue. The coin exhibits an extraordinary satiny luster that flows evenly across both sides, creating a glowing cartwheel effect that enhances its visual appeal. On the obverse, frosty silver-white centers are enriched by a soft champagne-gold overlay, accented by delicate rose and golden-brown hues along the rims, with traces of iridescent orange and violet nestled among the upper stars and denticles, whilst the reverse is complemented by creamy golden-beige highlights in the eagle’s wings and shield, framed by faint peripheral bands of reddish-gold, amber, and pale steel-blue. The strike is exceptional for the issue, showing crisp detail in Liberty’s gown, the shield lines, and the eagle’s plumage, while the surfaces remain free of meaningful distractions, further underscoring its superior preservation. A lower grade comparable CAC-approved MS64 brought $22,912 in 2021, whilst an NGC MS64+ CAC sold for $21,738 04/23 LE thereafter - neither of which is MS64+ PCGS CAC and is the single finest. This offering represents an elite opportunity for advanced specialists in the Liberty Seated half dollar series, civil war collectors and S-Mint collectors.
