(Volcano, CA)- Volcano Water & Mining Company $-various 185_ Certificate Remainder PMG Choice Very Fine 35. Volcano was founded in 1848 by miners participating in the gold exploration efforts in Amador County, CA. By 1855, hydraulic mining was introduced which led to companies like the Volcano Water & Mining Company developing infrastructure to sell water to miners. As stated on the note, it would be redeemed either in water or cash at the company's discretion. PMG mentions some pinholes, evidence of previous mounting (glue stains), and ink has been lightened (presumably a spot in the President's signature line).
