New York, NY- (Bank of New York) Check $250 Nov. 12, 1784 Very Fine; Philadelphia, PA- Bank of the United States Check $100 June 7, 1793 Very Fine. The New York check was made out by a Sam. Provoost to Colonel Henry Rutgers. Provoost would become the Chaplain for the Continental Congress in 1785. Colonel Rutgers fought at battle of White Plains (he was a Captain at this point in his career) in New York, where he earned the accolade of being a Revolutionary War Hero. Both checks have been cancelled, the New York pen cancelled and the Pennsylvania one hammer-cut. The New York check has a small right edge tear.
