FL IVL CON-STANS P F AVG, laurel and rosette-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Constans right, seen from front / VICTORIA-DD NN AVGG, Victory standing facing, head left, grounded trophy in right hand, palm cradled in left arm; TES in exergue. Constans ruled from AD 337 to AD 350 and was the youngest son of Constantine the Great. After his father's death, the empire was divided among Constans and his two brothers, Constantine II and Constantius II. Constans received control of Italy, Africa, and the Balkans, later gaining all of the western provinces after defeating Constantine II in AD 340. Though a capable ruler early on, his increasingly autocratic behavior led to growing discontent. In AD 350, the general Magnentius rebelled and seized power, forcing Constans to flee.
