Food Stamp / Food Coupon Credit Slip Uncut Sheets. (Washington, DC)- Jumbo Food Stores, Inc. Written Amounts (12) ND circa 1960s-70 Extremely Fine-About Uncirculated; Chicago, IL- Jet Community Mkt 1¢ (10) ND circa 1970s Choice About Uncirculated. This is the first time that we have offered uncut sheets of Food Stamp / Food Coupon Credit Slip scrip. Retailers had to either pay out food stamps / food coupons or change slip / scrip for their respective stores when it became necessary to make change. The Jumbo Food Stores, Inc. example is of the variety where the cashier wrote in the amount of change. The clause, "Not Good For More than 49 Cents" tells us that these were printed when the smallest food stamp / food coupon denomination was 50¢. The last series that included the 50¢ denomination was Series 1973. The credit slip scrip program was discontinued in its entirety on December 31, 1978. As of January 1, 1979, retailers were able to use US coins in order to make change up to 99 cents. Paper Food Stamp / Food Coupons was terminated on June 25, 2009 and are now collectible.
