Husaynid Beys. Muhammad al-Hadi Bey gold 20 Francs AH 1322 (1904)-A MS62 NGC, Paris mint, KM234, Fr-12. The Husaynid Beys took over shortly after the Muradid Beys, ruling over Tunisia from 1705 through the 20th Century; despite their Ottoman vassalage, the Beys held meaningful autonomy over Tunisia and its foreign affairs while maintaining the privileges associated with Ottoman identity. After the French invasion of 1881 and subsequent protectorate, the Beys continued serving as the titular head of state despite French governing behind the scenes. The Husaynid Beys held power until Tunisia declared independence in 1957. HID07901242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
