Central American Republic 8 Reales 1841/7 NG-MA UNC Details (Reverse Scratched) NGC, Nueva Guatemala mint, KM4, cf. Elizondo-101 (only 1/7 overdate and non over-assayer). This absolute specimen of a coin would be in contention to be one of the finest known examples of this date. With cartwheel luster and frosty snow-white mirror-like fields, this coin could practically be used as a spotlight to guide sailors in a storm. If it were not for the small disqualifying scratches noted, it would certainly be considered for the desired "PL" or proof-like designation due to the exceptional eye appeal and the quality of its condition and strike. Although recorded by NGC as "1841/7" all known specimens with this overdate are "41/37", even if the "3" is not visible on the coin, as is the case here.
