New York, NY- Two Letters Dated August 1802 Not Graded. Both letters are signed by a "Jon. Ogden" and are addressed to, "My dear friend," "Wm. Meredith Esq." of Philadelphia. This is believed to be one William Tuckey Meredith (1777-1844) as he was married to Gertrude Meredith (nee Ogden) (1777-1828). One of their children was William Morris Meredith (1799-1873), United States Secretary of the Treasury (1849-50). His portrait is found on Fifth Issue 10 Cent Fractional notes. The August 6, 1802 letter mentions a "Blank power of attorney" in pursuing Ogden's dividend on the Peter Blight Estate. Also, the Easton Delaware Bridge Lottery which was held in Pennsylvania is mentioned. The August 10, 1802 letter mentions receiving a post note of $1,049.63 as a dividend of "20 p cent on my claim of Blight's Estate."
