Connecticut Comptroller's Office Interest Certificate £0 5s 7d February 14, 1791 About Uncirculated; Norwich, (CT) Promissory Loan Agreement £12.17s March 27, 1800 Very Fine. The Comptroller's Office certificate is your standard hole canceled certificate signed by Ralph Pomeroy as Comptroller. It is very well embossed and has a single horizontal fold. The promissory note has a bit more historical value to it. It is payable to Gardner Carpenter from Simon Edgerton, with Zephaniah Huntington signing as witness. Both Carpenter and Edgerton signed endorsements on the verso. Simon Edgerton was a captain of the 12th Regiment of the Connecticut Militia during the Revolution. He was present for both British triumphs at New London and Fort Griswold. Gardner Carpenter was a successful businessman located in Norwich at that time. His home, the Gardner Carpenter house, was located at 55 East Town Street and exists to this day on the National Register of Historic Places.
