1868 3CS MS66 PCGS CAC - Key Date to the Trime series, an extraordinary and visually captivating 1868 Three-Cent Silver representing one of the premier rarities of the entire denomination. Struck from a tiny circulation mintage of just 3,500 pieces with only 200 estimated today in all grades, the 1868 issue ranks among the most elusive business strikes in the series, with surviving Mint State examples exceptionally rare and heavily pursued by advanced collectors and Registry Set participants. Both sides are engulfed in vibrant, multicolored iridescence with intense turquoise-blue dominating the fields, while accents of cobalt, violet, rose-magenta, rose-gold, and champagne-amber radiate throughout the surfaces. The obverse displays razor-sharp definition across deeply reflective, prooflike fields that amplify the dramatic coloration and underlying mint brilliance. The reverse features rich electric-blue peripheral toning complemented by warm golden-bronze and lavender highlights that shift beautifully beneath the light. Satiny luster remains vibrant beneath the layered toning, producing exceptional depth and outstanding eye appeal throughout. The present example is one of the finest with a CAC pop of 7 ( certainly includes resubmissions) and only 1 finer. Having had the privilege of handling the MS66+ PCGS CAC almost 5 years ago when the CAC price was the same! We are thrilled with the current offering. PCGS Price Guide at $37,500, while the CAC Price Guide reflects $34,500, further illustrating the importance and advanced collector demand surrounding this elite-condition survivor. Even 2 grades lower, in lower MS64+ PCGS CAC an example is offered on the market for approximately $25,000 with an original but no toning.
