Struck from a pair of discarded dies - the Mint had yet to account for the boundless drive of opportunists and render decommissioned dies unusable - by a private operation. An 1823 obverse and 1813 reverse created a fantasy issue of sorts. The dies show their age through heavy die cracks and imbued rust, though a curious amount of luster remains.
