Crows Landing, CA - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 601 The First National Bank Ch. # 9765 PCGS Banknote Choice VF 35. A wonderful northern California rarity, this is one of just two large size reported from this Stanislaus County bank. The sole issuer in this small community, the First National maintained a minuscule circulation of $6,250 with only $330 in large size outstanding in 1935. As mentioned, just two large notes are listed in the census - both $5 Plain Backs - one which first appeared in a 1977 Hickman-Oakes sale and then which resurfaced last year where, in PMG Extremely Fine 40 holder, it sold for $33,600 at auction. Tonight's offering was last offered in 2016, in an "old" PCGS Very Fine 35 holder, when it realized $32,900. Now housed in a "new" PCGS holder, it remains as bright and fresh as when we first laid eyes upon it with bold ink colors and dark pen signatures. A true California trophy note worth whatever it brings tonight. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
