1834 $5 Plain 4, HM-3, R.2, MS61 NGC. This first-year Classic Head half eagle is an excellent addition to a U.S. gold type set. The HM-3 variety is an available example of the date and type, seen here in an early-to-middle dies state. Short die cracks run from the wingtips to the edge of each wing, but no sign of the late-stage obverse die crack that runs vertically from the eye across the cheek to the mouth.
