1787 1C Fugio Cent, UNITED STATES, Cinquefoils, N. 8-B, W-6740, R.3, MS65 Brown PCGS. CAC. Newman 8-B is an available Fugio variety, responsible for a moderate portion of the attractive Mint State type coins collectors search for. It is invariably seen with heavy die clashing, as here. This piece is in a late die state where it is clashed, lapped, and reclashed. Luminous satin luster adorns burgundy-brown luster, with hints of silvery iridescence throughout the fields on both sides. There is no lack of strike softness on this coin, and the only weakness is that which comes from the advanced die state. An eye-appealing example in every respect. Among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins.
