1839 P$1 Name Omitted, Judd-104 Restrike, Pollock-116, R.3 -- Altered Surfaces -- PCGS Genuine. Proof, AU Details. Silver. Die Alignment IV (Center of Liberty's head opposite the right side of F in OF). The altered surfaces noted by PCGS produce a finely granular appearance in the fields and over the devices, making identification of the restrike period essentially impossible. Both Originals and Restrikes were struck from these dies, in both die alignments. Originals were coined the last week of December 1839; Restrikes were produced on three different occasions: early state restrikes circa 1862 to 1864, middle state restrikes circa 1863 to 1865, and late state restrikes circa 1873 to 1874. All Restrikes are believed to have been produced under Linderman's supervision. The current piece displays smooth surfaces with muted texture and deep blue, lavender, and peach-gold hues.
