1807 $5 Bust Left, BD-8, R.2, AU53 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State d/b, with obverse die clashing imost visible at Liberty's ear, along with a die crack left of Star 13. This 1807 half eagle is the BD-8 variety, which John Dannreuther includes among the more prolific early half eagle survivors, estimating as many as 500 to 750 pieces extant. This AU53 example retains ample original mint luster and lively autumn-gold patina. Light-olive undertones in the fields complement lovely peach hues on the devices. Modest high-point wear defines the grade and only minor, scattered abrasions are noted. Eye appeal is outstanding.
