1842 $10 Small Date MS61 PCGS. The Small Date eagle has a minimal mintage compared to the more common Large Date variety, with a total of 18,623 coins. Tawny-gold luster envelops this piece, with some slight reflectivity in the fields and subtle orange highlights along the edges of the devices. The strike is exceptional, with strong detail in the feathering as well as the hair. A small scratch is present under the ER of AMERICA, along with a handful of smaller scratches that do not detract from the coin. Wear is minimal. At both NGC and PCGS, the variety is rarely seen any finer, with just three examples observed finer by PCGS and none at NGC (8/26). This is the first time we have offered a Small Date example so fine in three years, offering a scarce opportunity to obtain this scarcer variety. From The Christensen Family Collection.
