1836 P2C Two Cents, Original, Judd-55, Pollock-56, High R.7, MS63 Brown PCGS. An early, small diameter two cent pattern with a spread-winged eagle on the obverse and date below. The reverse features TWO CENTS in the center, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. Only around half a dozen examples are known, some of which are silver plated according to Judd. The present piece is our first offering of this variety in our history, making this a magnanimous opportunity for pattern collectors to obtain this rare specimen (8/26). The present example displays rich ebony-brown luster with a small crest of the original red color at the top of the obverse. A spot of patina under the back foot will serve as an excellent pedigree marker. The strike is strong, with good details along the eagle's breast feathers. Only two original examples of Judd-55 have been observed by PCGS, the present piece being the finer of the two and the foremost CoinFacts plate coin as a result (8/26).
