1868 P1C One Cent, Judd-612, Pollock-677, Low R.7, PR65 Cameo NGC. Ex: Lemus Collection. Struck from the regular-issue Indian Head cent dies in aluminum with a plain edge. The Judd-612 issue was struck alongside several other denominations that were sold as sets and have since largely been broken up, with the present coin separated from its set following its ANA sale in 1979. Only nine coins have been seen both in and out of sets, and the present specimen is identifiable by a small patina dot above the third headdress feather. This attractive pattern displays frosted silver luster over the devices alongside reflectivity in the fields, as expected of a Cameo-designated piece. Given the limited number of available coins, the issue scarcely comes to auction, with the last known auction appearance of a Judd-612 occurring five years ago in 2021. Ex: ANA Auction (New England Rare Coin Auctions, 7/1979), lot 1316; The Danny Arnold and Romisa Collections (Bowers & Merena, 9/1984), lot 358; The L.W. Hoffecker Collection (Superior, 2/1987), lot 41A; The Lemus Collection, Queller Family Collection Part Two / FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2009), lot 1672. From The West Texas Collection.
