Famous transition year type! The No Cents Liberty Nickel, with only a roman numeral V to signify the denomination, was quickly pulled and replaced with a redesign that included the word 'CENTS'. Con artists - or opportunists, according to those disposed to more charitable naming conventions and less moral constitution - electroplated the starkly-designed coins with gold in an attempt to pass these 'Racketeer Nickels' off as $5 gold pieces, the pernicious bunch.
