British India. George V 1/2 Rupee 1911-(c) AU Details (Cleaned) PCGS, Calcutta mint, KM521, S&W-8.61. Struck in December 1911 on a mintage exceeding two million pieces, this short-lived type was withdrawn the following month. The recall followed public outrage over the pig-like rendering of the elephant pendant in the obverse design of the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire, giving the coin lasting notoriety among collectors. Now regarded as a scarce single-year issue within the British Indian series and always popular when seen at auction. HID07901242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
