Fr. 1382 Fractional Currency Shield with Gray Background Not Graded. Fractional Shields were made available at a price of $4.50, including shipping. These numismatic treasures were prepared between June 1867 and June 1868 and are composed of 39 First, Second, and Third Issue notes. There are 20 faces and 19 backs and all are uniface and closely trimmed. The 25¢ Second Issue back on the Shield in this lot has faded to the usually found blue-gray color. We do not see any ink erosion in the four hand-signed notes. This gray background Shield is not graded. It has been professionally matted and mounted within a simple, yet attractive frame. Overall dimensions are approximately 30 by 34.5 inches. The matting stops just before the Shield proper and therefore most of the staining usually seen on these majestic Fractional items due to poor Treasury Department storage is covered up with only a small amount visible at upper right. This Shield is ready for hanging in the next owner's den or office. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
