Massachusetts October 16, 1778 3s PMG Very Fine 25. £75,000 in so-called "codfish" notes were emitted with 5,143 3s notes approved for issue. Paul Revere engraved the face plate for the twelve lowest denominations and also printed the faces. The notes derive their name from the vignette of a codfish in the top border of the face. The note is well printed with clear design features including the signature of Thomas Dawes, with PMG mentioning tears (primarily short edge tears).
