Massachusetts 1779 5s PMG Choice Fine 15 Net. Substitute Denomination Bills amounting to £20,000 were emitted as part of the October 16, 1778, issuance, but they were payable by December 1, 1782, in accordance with the January 26, 1779 Act. The face of this example was engraved and printed by Paul Revere and features the rising sun at right. Thomas Fleet designed and printed the back, which showcases a pine tree at center. Fleet also utilized this back on the October 16 and 18, 1778, emissions but updated it for this series. This example has been severed and reattached and has other tears.
