South Carolina February 8, 1779 $90 PMG About Uncirculated 53. The Act of February 8, 1779 authorized $1,000,000 in Bills of Credit with the option of issuing an additional $3,000,000 if that amount could not be borrowed. The $3,000,000 portion of the authorization comprised $50, $70, and $90 notes. The $90 is quite artistically designed by colonial note standards, with a small vignette of a Warrior on the face with the motto ARMISA CONCURRITE CAMPO and an impressive back vignette depicting Hercules strangling a lion. The design details are sharply printed and the note has decent margins. The signatures of Theodore Gaillard, Jr., Charles Atkins, and George Cooke are bold and dark. PMG notes staining and evidence of previous mounting on the back. From The Richard Jones Collection HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
