Virginia April 5, 1759 £5 PMG Very Fine 25 Net. The Act of April 5, 1759 authorized an emission of £52,000 in Treasury Notes, including 2,000 £5 notes, the largest denomination issued. The colonial Coat of Arms, with a ribbon bearing the motto EN DAT VIRGINIA QUARTAM, which refers to Virginia being the Crown's fourth realm, appears on the face along with the bold signatures of John Randolph and Robert Carter Nicholas. The note has pinholes and has been severed and reattached as can be seen on the back which also is covered with period annotations. We last sold this example for $940 nearly a decade ago in 2017 as part of our Eric P. Newman Collection Part 4 Auction. Ex Eric P. Newman Collection.
