Courtesy Autographs H(enry) Morgenthau Jr. and W.A. Julian Fr. 1608 $1 1935A Silver Certificate. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. This is certainly one of the more unusual autographed notes we have ever been privileged to offer. Eric P. Newman obtained this note, as the letter included with the lot explains, from Mr. Tom K. Smith, who was president of the Boatmen's National Bank of St. Louis. Apparently, Mr. Smith had told Eric Newman that he could obtain a note with the courtesy autographs of Treasurer of the United States W. A. Julian and Secretary of the Treasurer Henry Morgenthau, Jr. When Mr. Smith was unable to obtain such an item, he sent Mr. Newman a $1 Silver Certificate, signed by H(enry) Morgenthau in blue ink with the salutation, "For Jane Smith" (presumably Mr. Smith's wife) and the date, "June 23, 1939." Mr. Julian signed his name with black ink below his printed signature. The explanatory letter and the note have been encapsulated together in a special PCGS oversized holder measuring approximately 9 by 14 inches. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
