1795 1/2 C Plain Edge, No Pole, Thin Planchet, C-6a, B-6a, R.2, VF35 PCGS. Manley Die State 2.0, the usual state with a slight bulge to the right of the Y in Liberty in the upper field along the border. The date, legends and central devices on this 1795 C-6a half cent are all clear and legible throughout the semiglossy, deep-chocolate patina. An off-center strike pushes the denticles on the lower obverse and at the corresponding upper reverse (as struck). A few pinpoint planchet voids and trivial nicks are minor and overall eye appeal is wonderful to behold. A diagonal impression running under the 795 at the date is not an abrasion but remnant undertype. Many half cents were struck on 1794 Talbot, Allum and Lee tokens that were cut down and rolled out for use as planchets by the Mint. Close inspection reveals a diagonal impression is detail from the undertype obverse, and much of the underlying 1794 token date is visible at the base. PCGS Population (C-6a): 5 in 35, 15 finer (9/26). HID06601242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
