Malaya Board of Commissioners of Currency 100 Dollars 1942 (ND 1945) Pick 15 KNB15a PMG About Uncirculated 50 EPQ. Dated January 1, 1942, this impressive 100 Dollars belongs to an issue whose circulation was dramatically shaped by the Second World War. Although notes denominated in dollars were prepared during the wartime period, they were not released until 1945, after British control of Malaya was restored following the end of the Japanese occupation. The 100 Dollars was the second-highest denomination publicly issued for the series, with the planned 10,000 Dollars never released for general circulation. This substantially sized note features the portrait of King George VI at right in red and green, while 11 coats of arms appear across the back in a handsome, restrained design. Surviving examples are plentiful enough, with a population of nearly 680 notes in total recorded in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging, however most examples do not exceed a Very Fine grade. This makes the condition offered here particularly impressive, with only 23 graded finer. This About Uncirculated 50 example also boasts Exceptional Paper Quality, and marks the highest grade we have ever offered at auction for the type. The consecutive serial number example is also presented separately in this auction. The historic origins and remarkable condition make this an astounding survivor of the series.
