Malaya Board of Commissioners of Currency 100 Dollars 1942 (ND 1945) Pick 15cts KNB28CT Color Trial Specimen PMG Choice Uncirculated 63. An exceptionally rare Color Trial Specimen of this important 100 Dollars design, this example marks the first time we have ever offered the type in this experimental format. While a number of issued examples have appeared in our auctions, the Color Trial is far more elusive, with only seven examples recorded in total in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging and just one example graded finer than the note offered here. The familiar red and green design is transformed by a dark red and purple palette. "SPECIMEN OF NO VALUE" overprints appear at upper left on both sides, accompanied by red Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. circular overprints at lower right and hole punches. Our cataloger was able to trace just one other public offering of the type in the past decade, with no traced auction appearances matching or exceeding the grade presented here. Minor stains are mentioned on the holder, but do little to detract from the remarkable appeal of such a rarely encountered Color Trial. Combining its experimental format, limited population, and exceptional grade, this is one of the most significant examples of the design we have seen.
