Australia Note Printing Australia (AUS) 50 Units ND Pick UNL Polymer Test Note PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45. One of the earliest polymer prototypes known, perhaps created as a precursor to Australia's first polymer note, issued in 1988. Note Printing Australia needed to test how the polymer surfaces would react to normal usage, handling, and contact with other notes of both polymer and paper. Additionally, polymer notes were intended to last longer than paper notes and were created to also withstand more extremes than a paper note could tolerate. This note is similar to the other that is seen in this auction, but it lacks the silver or white square in the black stripe. Extremely rare and interesting.
