Burma Reserve Bank of India 5 Rupees ND (1937) Pick 1a Jhunjhunwalla-Razack 5.1.1B PMG About Uncirculated 53. A provisional issue from 1937, this 5 Rupees reflects the transitional period when the Reserve Bank of India continued to supply currency for Burma using existing Government of India notes. The "LEGAL TENDER IN BURMA ONLY" overprint appears here in red. The provisional notes remained in use until their stocks were exhausted and new currency could be produced, making this an important intermediate chapter in Burmese paper money. The example offered here is tied with just one other as the finest graded in the PMG Population Report at time of cataloging. Staple holes at issue are mentioned on the holder, a characteristic commonly encountered on Indian banknotes, alongside stains and annotation. HID08101242017 www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
