A wholesome, original example of this desirable Dahlonega issue, displaying pleasing yellow-gold color. The strike is better than typically encountered, with well-defined hair curls and a bold reverse eagle. Honest light circulation is balanced by problem-free surfaces and attractive eye appeal. The first-year 1839-D is a scarce Southern gold issue that becomes increasingly difficult to locate in higher circulated grades. Just 18,939 were minted.
