An exceptionally appealing near proof-like Choice Mint State example of the first-year 1834 Classic Head quarter eagle issue, this piece displays highly lustrous surfaces that radiate vibrant mint brilliance. Struck during the transitional era following the reduction in gold weight standards authorized by the Mint Act of 1834, the Classic Head quarter eagle represents an important and historically significant type within early United States gold coinage. With a mintage of 112,234 pieces and an estimated surviving population of approximately 1,750 coins across all grades, Mint State examples remain in strong demand, especially those combining originality, strong luster, and premium quality aesthetics such as the present specimen. The last MS63 PCGS CAC example sold at auction for a strong $14,400 04/25 HA. Considering NGC MS64 non-CAC sold last for $19,200 09/22 HA, and even non-CAC MS63+ PCGS for $10,370 01/26 HA, and this example is priced under the last comp, makes this a great purchase.
