1854 $3 MS63 PCGS. CAC. The initial speculation for widespread adoption of the denomination saw the forthcoming mintage of 138,618 three dollar coins, but demand was underwhelming with future mintages sharply dropping off and never surpassing six figures again. The strike of this piece is excellent with an especially sharp wreath and only minute weakness along the top portions of the hair. The large mintage for the issue has made it a popular type coin for the denomination and this allows a healthy Mint State survivorship for series collectors to peruse.
