1900 $1 PR61 PCGS. JD-2, R.4. VAM-32. The first Morgans of the 1900s had a production of just 912 proofs, leaving the 1900 proof dollar scarce in grades finer than the PR62 to PR64 levels. This PR61 example is a notch lower than that threshold. Sporadic reddish-gold accents emerge along the borders as a few thin, arching clouds of champagne-gold circle before Liberty's face. Delicate patches of lilac appear on the cheek, neck and the upper reverse legends. This PR61 is well-struck with needle-sharp devices that are lightly frosted and mark-free. The mirrored obverse fields are bright and reflective while the reverse is slightly hazy. Faint hairlines account for the grade. The date is high, confirming the scarcer JD-2, VAM-32 dies.
