PSA Adds New Appraisal Service to Its Core Authentication and Grading Options

September 29, 2020

Chicago-based sports card and memorabilia appraiser Michael Osacky will now pair with PSA as part of its new Appraisal Service.

Are you ready to have your collectible item appraised?
PSA will do the necessary market research and provide you with a current value.

Company now answers the question, ‘What’s it worth?’

Newport Beach, CA (Sept. 29, 2020) – Professional Sports Authenticator (www.PSAcard.com) is adding appraisal services to its list of options for collectors seeking to get their items authenticated and graded.  A professional appraisal can go a long way to get an accurate market valuation of a single item or an entire collection.

PSA built its reputation on the company’s ability to evaluate an item’s authenticity and then provide a grade as to its condition.  PSA will complete the ultimate collector’s trifecta by providing an independent professional appraisal of their PSA-certified collectibles.  To soft launch the new service this month, PSA is pairing with Chicago-based sports card and memorabilia appraiser Michael Osacky who has been appraising collections for more than 20 years.

“PSA customers will no longer have to ‘guess’ what the market value is for their PSA authenticated and/or graded collectibles,” said Osacky.  “PSA Appraisals will finally answer the crucial question, ‘What’s it worth?’”

The detailed assessment will provide collectors with a certificate of appraisal that includes a photo of the item and describes and states its value.  This documentation can be used for both insurance determinations and estate planning purposes.  During the soft launch, any items that were previously certified by PSA qualify for the appraisal service.  PSA Appraisals will be a true add-on service in 2021, available in conjunction with the authentication and grading services.

"For years, people would call me either before or after having their items authenticated and graded by PSA,” said Osacky.  “For over 25 years, the authentication and grading procedure and then the appraisal evaluation were always two separate services.  Now, they are together as one.  Customers who submit will be able to get their items authenticated and graded and then appraised by PSA.  This is a huge win for the customer and the industry as a whole.”

In general, appraisal values are determined by estimating the cost to replace said item.

"It's always about the analysis and the thinking behind it, and I always try to back into the dollar amount,” said Osacky.  “Everything I do is rooted in data and numbers.  I'm not pulling things out of thin air. As a certified appraiser, the value of sports memorabilia must be an analysis of many factors."

Osacky is an accredited member and certified Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) compliant appraiser of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and has spent countless hours evaluating collections.  "Half of the appraisals I do are not even for selling situations," he added.  "Many times, they are for insurance purposes, estate planning, or for a donation to a museum, like the Baseball Hall of Fame.”

Prices vary depending on the item(s) being appraised and in the early going, only higher-end collectibles will be evaluated.  To learn more about specific service details and pricing, please visit www.PSAcard.com/appraisals.

PSA is the world’s largest trading card, autograph and memorabilia authentication and grading service.  Since 1991, PSA has examined and certified over 40 million collectibles with a combined value of over $1 billion.  For more information, visit www.PSAcard.com.
