Legend Rare Coin Auctions' 10th Regency Sale Brings Just Under $3 Million as the Sunset Hill Collection Shines

- December 23, 2014

$1 1879-S PCGS MS68+
$1 1879-S PCGS MS68+ EX BELLA COLLECTION Lot # 223

Las Vegas, NV – Legend Rare Coin Auctions wrapped up their tenth Regency Auction last week at The Venetian in Las Vegas.  The sale was held in conjunction with the PCGS Members Only Show, of which they are the official auctioneer.  The Regency Auction X featured 338 hand selected lots and several impressive collections, including The Bob Simpson Barber Dime Collection, and the Sunset Hill Proof Morgan Dollar Collection.  Although the sale saw significant numbers all around, The Sunset Hill Collection was the true star.  The 32-lot group of Proof Morgans realized nearly $700,000 after all was said and done.  Auctioneer Brad Karoleff returned to the podium and called the two and a half hour sale for enthusiastic floor, phone, and internet bidders in front of a packed house.

Julie Abrams, President of Legend Rare Coin Auctions, was "extremely pleased with the results of our tenth Regency sale.  The auction room was the most crowded I can remember and heated bidding created record prices on coins like the 1879-S Morgan Dollar out of the Bella Collection, and the Buffalo Pattern just to name a few.  Our growth has been explosive since we formed this company over two years ago.  We would like to convey our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported us thus far."

"Technically, this was our smoothest sale to date," added Devin Healey, Director of Digital Marketing & Auction Operations.  "The Bidopia platform performed wonderfully and everything finally aligned for a great sale on all fronts.  We look forward to improving the bidding experience even further in upcoming sales."

Final prices realized were $2,929,245.67 with Buyer's Premium, including multiple highlights and several record prices:

"We had really nice coins in this sale and the results were as expected.  In many cases it was what I'd call a 'perfect storm' of bidding," says Laura Sperber, partner and founder of Legend Rare Coin Auctions.  "A 3CS 1854 PCGS PR66 from the Texas Trimes Collection brought $58,750, the incredible Simpson 10C 1911 PCGS MS68+ saw intense bidding from both type collectors and major Barber Dime buyers, and we had a stunning $1 1879-S PCGS MS68+ sell for $32,900 in a bidding war.  Of course the Sunset Hill Collection was pure nirvana for collectors. Every coin offered in it realized incredibly strong money."

Sperber went on to say that "our boutique concept is clearly loved by collectors.  By having a limited amount of fully vetted coins, our auctions continue to enjoy tremendous growth and collector participation."

The next Legend Rare Coin Auctions sale, The Regency Auction XI will be held at The Venetian/Palazzo in Las Vegas on Thursday, February 19 at the PCGS Members Only Show.  The consignment deadline is December 29.
