2021 Long Beach Expo Marks Return of Major Coin, Collectibles Shows in Southern California

By Joshua McMorrow-Hernandez - July 12, 2021

As the world slowly emerges from the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic, life is beginning to return to some semblance of normalcy. Concerts are back on, movie houses flicker with the light of film, and cheerful screams are heard on roller coasters snaking through theme parks from sea to shining sea. The gradual shift from lockdowns and safer-at-home orders to appreciably larger events has also been welcomed by so many in the numismatic world, which went about a year without any major coin shows being held. The year 2021 has already seen several large coin shows hit the calendar after many months of absence, and among them is the Long Beach Expo Coin, Currency, Stamp & Sports Collectible Show – a southern California numismatic staple.

The next Long Beach Expo will be held September 30-October 2, 2021, and marks the first time the event will go on since February 2020, mere weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic began sweeping through the United States. Many in the numismatic community have been anticipating the comeback of the Long Beach Expo, including PCGS, with its headquarters located in Santa Ana, California – just a few miles from the Long Beach Convention Center, where the famous coin and collectibles show typically takes place three time each year.

“We’re optimistic about the continuing return of coin shows, the Long Beach Expo among them,” says PCGS President Brett Charville. “It’s near our headquarters, and we’ve been making appearances at this important show since our early days – and they’ve been huge PCGS supporters, too. The first Long Beach Expo since February 2020 is just another sign that our hobby is slowly returning to a sense of normalcy.”

“PCGS plans to be offering on-site grading at the Long Beach Expo,” announces PCGS Senior Events Manager Samantha Dark. “Contingent upon any unforeseen changes related to pandemic safety protocols or other unexpected situations, we will be there offering Show Submissions through Friday, October 1, 2021, at 5:00 PM and will continue all other service-level submissions until late morning on Saturday, October 2, 2021.”

Additionally, the Long Beach Expo promises a bevy of exciting highlights, including hundreds of dealers buying and selling coins, banknotes, medals, tokens, sports collectibles, and much more. There will also be educational exhibits and a landmark Heritage Auctions event offering rare coins, banknotes, and much more. Being the first Long Beach Expo since early 2020, attendees should expect big crowds and plenty of fun surprises in store. But don’t forget, there will be COVID-19 safety protocols in place to help keep everybody safe. So, remember to don your masks if required and be sure to bring along some hand sanitizer in case you’re shaking any hands or want to enjoy some fine finger food at the commissary.
